Today our theme was “Under the Sea” which had us exploring all the animals found in the sea.  We listened to stories about Sharks, sang songs and then made sea animal sun catchers.  A huge thank you to Barb K., Marion S. and Victoriia S. for volunteering.  Be sure to join us next week when we explore TRAINS!!!

Last week we had another successful story time with 30 attendees. This fall we are putting names in for a drawing that we will hold during the last Storytime in November. One lucky winner will go home with The Tickle Monster Kit!!! The kids loved the book so much last week they requested that I reread the book to start Storytime this week. Then we moved on to the weekly theme and explored bugs!!! The kids loved learning about all types of bugs. We also talked about the differences between the first week’s theme of dinosaurs and this week’s theme of bugs. We talked about how dinosaurs are big and bugs are small. We were very active with a book that had them acting out what the bug said. After the stories we got to color a bug key chain to talk home. Our Fall Storytime started off with a ROAR as we explored Dinosaurs as our theme!!!

We started our Summer Storytimes off with a bang with our Bubble themed program.  Everyone loved all the bubbles!!  A special “Thank You” to Mary Kay Schuh who brought her special bubble mixture and made giant bubbles that fit around the kids.

The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department (NDPRD) in association with the State Library are excited to announce the expansion of the Library Loan Program, allowing library patrons to “check out” a pass providing entrance to any State Park, effectively waiving the $5 daily pass fee.

The pass is good for seven days. Any additional charges, such as camping and rentals, are not included in the pass and are the responsibility of the pass holder.

In 2012, libraries in North Dakota circulated the passes 137 times and in 2013, through September, the passes have been checked out 215 times. The expanded program will distribute 252 passes to 87 public libraries in North Dakota.

There is a limit of one pass per household and they can only be checked out by cardholders age 18 and older and in good standing with the library. The passes can be renewed

after seven days if there is no one on a waiting list to use the pass.

The Library has a new addition in the form a colorful rug for kids to use during Storytime.  The rug features different Dewey decimal numbers with the picture of what can be found at that number.  The Library would like to THANK the Lakota Foundation for the grant they awarded us for increased children programing that made purchasing the rug possible.  The rug will remain in place year around so be sure to stop by to see it!!

This weeks Storytime was all about the Alphabet.  On Tuesday night kids had to find something in the Library for each of the letters of the Alphabet.  Thursday’s group had to find all 26 letters that were hidden in the Library.  Both groups did a great job!!!    

Last week we had Storytime with a theme of Monkeys.  We had many children come enjoy making Monkey faces.

Today we had 19 kids at the Library to listen to stories that had a beat to them.  The kids learned how to keep a beat and then we handed out musical instruments and they performed as they marched around the Library to a fast beat, medium beat and slow beat.  After we were done with that they created their own musical instrument to bring home.
